Day 1 — San Francisco

6/9/2023 Friday

Itinerary:

  • San Francisco Airport (SFO)
  • Qatar Airways Airbus A350-1000 Qsuites

We left for the airport around noon as we had to take a 4:15pm flight to Bali, Indonesia with a 8 hour layover in Doha, Qatar. We took the Airbus A350-1000 Qsuites which was had took the last time we went to Maldives. I love the Qsuites as it was a door that we can close to have some privacy while we sleep.

We stayed at the lounge till it was time to board our plane.  It was a little over 15 hours of flying before we landed at Doha.

The service on the plane was good as usual and so was the seat but the food wasn't as good as I remembered the last time we took Qatar Airways. But overall, we had a good flight.

Qatar Airways - QSuites

First time on Qatar Airways (07/10/2021)

Itinerary:
  • San Francisco to Doha, Doha to Maldives (Qsuite on Airbus 350-1000)
Maldives has been on my bucket list since I was a child and finally, we were able to make the trip. This is our first trip since the COVID-19 pandemic and we were both excited and nervous.

I have read a lot of good things about Qatar Airways, especially their Qsuite which is one of the best business class. After trying out different business class in China Airlines, EVA, Emirates and Qatar Airways, I can say that the Qsuite for Qatar Airways is indeed the best business class that I have sat in.

We received an email to check in 4 hours before our flight due to the extra time needed to check the PCR test results for each passenger. However, the counter was not opened till 3 hours and 30 minutes before the flight, so we were just standing in line waiting for 30 minutes. If you are also flying with Qatar Airways, then I suggest that you show up 3 hours and 30 minutes before your flight, so you don't wait there.

The Qsuite is very spacious and private but best of all is their service. The flight attendant is very attentive and dining is at any time of the flight, not on a fixed schedule. They also provide slippers and pajamas for our long 15 hour flight and made our bed for us when we decided to sleep. In addition, they also clean the bathroom after each use which to me is a plus as my flight on Emirates was the opposite experience. The restroom was so dirty that I had to look for other cleaner restroom to use.

Extra storage and also bottle of water

                                                                        Lots of leg room

                                                                    Welcome drink

                                                                        Lemon Mint Tea

One of the best chicken biryani I had on a plane

Hot Karak Chai Tea which I loved

                                                                       Ice Chai Latte

Afternoon Tea

When we reached Doha airport, there was a separate line for business class passengers, so we were out of the security line quickly. Since we were transiting, we booked the transit hotel inside the airport and did not leave the airport. We were also allowed in their business lounge which has really good food and service as well. There are 2 sections of dine-in options and the one upstairs is the better choice as they have much larger selection of food and also Ala Carte that you are order after you scan their QR code menu. After checking into our transit hotel, we had both our dinner in the business lounge as we landed in Doha around 5:10PM and also breakfast the next morning before our flight to Maldives.

Land's End Trail

May 28, 2017 Sunday

Today, we decided to check out Land's End Trail in San Francisco. I googled the best hike for kids around bay area and Land's End Trail came up as one of the top choices. I looked at the pictures and the views looked amazing, so decided to take the kids here today for an easy hike.

First, we parked in the parking lot next to the visitor center. Once we parked our car, we went to the visitor center to get a map.

Then we went to check out the Sutro Bath's which is a landmark there.

You can see the Cliff House in the background of the picture below.

There was a little cave next to the Sutro's bath and we went inside to check it out. There weren't much inside except it leads closer to the ocean at the end where the ship wrecks were.

After checking out the cave and Sutro's Bath, we started our hike. Along the way, we could see the ocean and Golden Gate, which was an amazing view. The winds were strong, so even though it was end of May, we had to wear our jackets.

Since it was Memorial weekend, there was an event going on and we stopped for a few minutes. We are so grateful to our armed force for protecting this land that we love and keeping us safe. Thank you.

On the way, Maddie was asking me if there was an restroom at the end, I thought there would be and told her. Unfortunately, I was wrong, so make sure you use the restroom at the visitor center before you start the hike as there is no restroom along the hike which is about 3 miles roundtrip.

The hike was pretty flat besides the steep staircase to climb in the middle of the hike.

After about 30 minutes or so, we finally reached the end of the hike. You can go further towards Baker's Beach and Golden Gate but we didn't. Some people also start their hike from here as it is near the Legion of Honor.

On our way back, we passed by beautiful Cypress trees near the end.

Since it was around lunch time, we decided to go to Cliff House for lunch.
