Day 2 - Nassau, Bahamas

June 9, 2013 Sunday

We took the red eye flight to Nassau, Bahamas with a connecting flight at Philadelphia. It was pretty tiring as we were at Philadelphia airport around 6am (which was 3am Pacific Time) waiting for our connecting flight to Nassau.

While waiting for our connecting flight, the kids were playing at the kids playground. I barely could open my eyes at this time but they were full of energy.

When we reached Nassau, we called for a taxi at the airport to take us to our hotel. On the way to the hotel, we bought some bottles of water while the taxi driver went to get gas. I believe they charged a fixed rate instead by time. Tip: try to get some bottles of water on the way to the hotel because the water at the hotel are really expensive. Some people even pay an extra $5 to the taxi driver to go to the grocery store to buy some food before going to their hotel.

The hotel that we are staying is the Atlantis Hotel. The hotel is on an island called the Paradise Island. There are 5 different towers at the hotel and a wide range of prices based on which tower you select. The 5 towers are (in asscending order of price):
1. Beach Tower
2. Coral Tower
3. Royal Tower
4. The Cove Atlantis
5. The Reef Atlantis

We picked the mid range tower, which is the Royal Tower because of the price and location. The Royal Tower is located in the middle of the resort. It is also the closest to the Aquaventure Park (water slides) and pools so the kids can get there easily. It is the tower that you can see the connecting bridge between the 2 buildings. The connecting bridge is actually called the Bridge Suites which has a 1,250 square foot living room and is on the 17th floor.

Once we arrived at the hotel, it was a little early but the hotel staff was very nice and allowed us to check in as the room was available. We had a nice ocean view room and usually, the room does not have a refrigerator. We asked for one as we have little kids and they did not charge us for the refrigerator.

As you can see from the map below, the resort is really big. It takes a while to walk from one side to the other side, which is why we picked the Royal Tower as it is situated right in the middle of the resort and next to the water slides and pools.

They have a very grand lobby which was beautiful. The 24 hour aquarium was near the lobby if you walk down the stairs.

Once we got to our room, we were mesmerized by the view.

The kids couldn't wait to go to the pools and slides, so we went downstairs soon after we put away our luggage. When we went downstairs, we had to go to the counter next to the pool to get our wristbands so that we can use the water slides and pools. For hotel guests, the use of the facilities is included in our hotel stay which is why we get charged a resort fee per person. As for people who are on cruises, they can pay a fee to use the facilities.

Also, the hotel has very tight securities, so there are securities guards at every entrance. We walked to the beach so that the kids can play with the sand.

I love the turquoise ocean.

Then we walked back to the hotel's man-made lagoon to play.

After playing, it was time to go get some dinner, so the kids was washing off their sand.

We walked to the Marina Village for dinner and on the way, we went to the aquarium called The Dig.

After the aquarium, we passed by the famous big chair which everyone takes a picture with. It's a symbol of the Atlantis Bahamas.

After that, we walked through the casino to enter the luxury mall before getting to Marina Village.

The Marina Village is next to the marina where many yachts are docked. They offer mainly causal dining and you can also get Starbucks there. It is part of Atlantis, so you can charge the bill to your room.
