The kids wanted to go swimming again, so Anthony took the kids while I went to the gym to work out. We bought pastries at the cafe inside the hotel for breakfast. The hotel has a pretty nice gym which has ocean views so I was able to see the nice view while working out.
After the workout, I went back to the room to get ready for check out.
On the way to the airport, we went to Star Noodles for lunch. We were lucky that there was no wait time when we arrived at the restaurant as they are usually packed and requires reservation. Since we didn't make any reservations, we were seated at the communion table where we shared with others. It was a little uncomfortable to have strangers seating so close to you. So if you like to eat at this restaurant, make sure you make reservations.
We ordered the Hapa Ramen, Star Udon, Kim Chee Ramen and Pad Thai. The ramen was pretty good but the pad thai was not as good as the food truck we had yesterday.
After lunch, we drove by Old Town Lahaina again to see the Banyan trees.
After returning our rental car, we took the flight to Hilo, Big Island. It was a quick 35 minutes flight.
We picked up our rental car shortly after we arrive and as it was a small airport, we didn't even have to take a shuttle bus to get the rental car. We just crossed the street to pick up the car. The hotel that we will be staying is about 10 minutes away from the airport, so we check in first before heading to the Rainbow Falls.
It was about a 10 minute drive to Rainbow Falls and there was not many people there.
After visiting the waterfalls, we headed to Liliuokalani Park and Gardens which is just next to our hotel.
While at the park, we could see a small island across the street which is called the Coconut Island. We wanted to check it out but the kids were tired, so we decided to head for dinner instead. Before I left for my trip, I did some research on where to eat and one of the places that were recommended was Ken's House of Pancakes which is open 24 hours. Also, one of my coworkers recommend this restaurant as well as she always eats here every time she comes to Big Island.
The Yelp reviews were not as good but I thought we give it a try since it was a few minutes drive from the park. We had their famous pancake and it was nice and fluffy however it was very hard to cut the pancake to pieces. The rest of the dishes that we ordered were not as great as we hoped. They have a large selection of dishes so maybe we didn't ordered the right dishes. But since it was opened 24 hours, it would be a nice supper place if you ever get hungry late at night since most restaurants here close early.
My tip would be to eat at this restaurant last, try other restaurants first and if one of the days that you are in Hilo, you have a late dinner, then try this restaurant since they are open 24 hours.
