Day 1 -- Cancun, Mexico

June 13, 2015 Saturday

This is our first time to Mexico and I picked Cancun because I have seen gorgeous pictures of Cancun; the white sandy beaches with clear turquoise ocean.

It is also our first time booking all-inclusive package and I was excited since we could eat and drink all we want. We stayed at Paradisus Cancun which is one of the hotels along the Boulevard Kukulcan. Most of the hotels in Cancun are on that Boulevard and it's a really long road with hotels and malls.

We arrived early at the airport and had some snacks at the lounge before getting on the plane.

We took a direct flight and it was less than 6 hours.

Before we left, I exchanged some Mexican Peso (exchange rate during that time was US$1 =  ~MXN 14.2) at the bank here since it was our first time there. Since it was an all-inclusive package, we don't really use much cash there except to book the tours, shuttle and some souvenirs. For most of the stuff, we can pay in U.S. currency and the hotel can also change our money. It actually offers a better rate than the U.S. bank I exchanged from.

So, based on our experience, I don't think we need to change to Peso. If you really want, maybe just change a little bit. It's a little bit cheaper to pay in Peso if you want to buy souvenirs but we wasn't planning to buy much souvenirs.

When we reached Cancun, it was pouring. We had already booked our shuttle bus before we came and it was waiting for us outside when we arrive.

It was a private shuttle for just the 4 of us. I think the ride to the hotel was about 20 minutes or so. When we arrived at the lobby, there was several people in line and most of them were complaining about flooding in their rooms due to the heavy rain the last few days.

We checked in and were given wristbands to wear throughout the stay. The wristbands show that we are guests of the hotel and since the hotel is all-inclusive, we can go to any restaurants and order the food/drinks without any charge. The black ones are for adults and the yellow ones are for kids.

Once we got our room card, we went to our room to relax a little and freshen up. When we opened the mini bar, it was stacked with drinks and some snacks.

Shortly, we went to the buffet restaurant and had our first meal/drink in Cancun. There was a variety of food and desserts.

After our meal, we walked around the hotel to check out the different areas. We eventually went to the lounge and stayed here for a while before returning to our room and rest.
