Itinerary:
- Kiyomizu-dera Temple
- Ninenzaka Yasaka Chaya Starbucks
- Gion
- Yasaka Shrine
- Ichiran Ramen
- Shinkyogoku Shopping District
After a tiring day yesterday, I have planned to have a more relaxing day today. Our main goal is to visit Kiyomizu-dera Temple which is on eastern Kyoto. It's not too far from our hotel, so we decided to take the bus there and bought 1 day bus ticket.
On the way to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, we had to walk about 10 minutes from the bus stop and there were many stores selling local food and souvenirs.
Right outside the temple, there is a cooling mist area to cool us off from the heat and it was very refreshing.
Next we went to Ninenzaka Yasaka Chaya to visit the world's first Japanese traditional house/tatami Starbucks which opened in 2017.
Sitting on the tatami while drinking the mango passion tea frappuccino drink which was really tasty and is not available in U.S.
Next, we picked a restaurant to have our lunch.
After a fulfilling lunch, we headed back to our hotel. On our way, we stopped by the shopping mall for some shopping.
Later in the afternoon, we took my mom to Gion as she didn't go with us the other day.
After checking out Gion, we decided to go Yasaka Shrine nearby.
On the way back to the hotel, we saw a lot of police cars and police officers directing traffic and was wondering what's going on. Soon, we saw a black car passed by while we were waiting for the traffic light and it was the ex Emperor of Japan in the car waving to all of us.
Later in the evening, we decided to try out one of the famous ramen in Japan, Ichiran Ramen. First, we had to select our meal using a vending machine and then, the waiter will take us upstairs to our seats where each person sits in its own seat.
It was our last night at Kyoto, so we walked around the Shinkyogoku Shopping district before heading back to our hotel. I like Kyoto as it gives me a mix of old and new things. There are shopping malls as well as historic temples just down the street.

The temple is under renovation, so we couldn't see the outside as it is covered. Here's a video.
